The undisputed star of Guardians of the Galaxy (highest grossing movie of the summer, fact fans) is without a doubt Vin Diesel’s character, Groot. A colossal tree-like humanoid with a very limited vocabulary, Groot is basically the Giving Tree on steroids. Kind, big-hearted and able to make plants and flowers grow from his body, Groot brought a little magic to all of us this summer.
And then there’s baby Groot. Who dances.
Pretty much everyone I know on Twitter agreed: everyone needs a dancing baby Groot in their lives. And if you happen to be a crocheter, this free dancing baby Groot pattern is right up your street.
It’s arguably one of the cutest crochet patterns I’ve ever found. Seriously, look at him, in his plant pot. Grooving away. I want six.
Designed by blogger Twinkie Chan (whose blog is filled to the brim with cute crochet stuff), this pattern requires a bit of patience, as it’s a lot of fine work. But the end result, as you can see, is well worth the work. Aside from a 5mm and a 3.5mm crochet hook, and the yarn, you’ll also need pipe cleaners for the arms (it’s what makes him dance), safety eyes for toys (Twinkie recommends either 9mm or 12mm ones) and a small plant pot.
Oh, and this playing in the background, of course.
